About the firm

A small firm, on purpose.

A Charleston firm built on trust, transparency, and results. Two partners, one office manager, and a phone that a lawyer answers.

Fighting for your rights since 2011.

The Tuesday case meeting, where every open file gets a next step.

Carter & Mills Law Office is a Charleston firm founded by attorneys Daniel Carter and Rebecca Mills. With more than 25 years of combined experience, the firm is known for personal legal representation for individuals and families across South Carolina.

Daniel spent his first years as a public defender, so he knows how the other side builds a case. Rebecca mediated family disputes before she argued them, and still prefers to settle things at the table when that serves the client.

Unlike large corporate firms, Carter & Mills treats every client like its only client: direct attorney access, plain-English updates, and determined advocacy when a case has to be fought.

The office stays small on purpose. It's the only way to keep the promise that a partner, not an associate you've never met, handles your matter from the first meeting to the last.

What the first meeting is like.

Two people reviewing and signing documents across a desk

No pressure, no meter running. The first meeting is free, and nobody asks you to sign anything that day.

  1. Step 1

    You call or write

Sophia calls back the same business day, checks there's no conflict with the other side, and sets a time.

  2. Step 2

    Forty-five minutes with a partner

At our office or by video. You tell the story your way; we ask questions and explain where you stand.

  3. Step 3

    A plan in writing

Within two business days: the options, a likely timeline, and the fee. Take it home and think.

  4. Step 4

    You decide

If you hire us, you sign the one-page fee agreement and get your partner's direct number.

Trusted by our community.
